The IEC WT 01 Type Certification System is the international scheme for type certification of wind turbines. The system creates significant benefit to the manufacturer by reducing the number of steps necessary to obtain certification or approval at national level.
The IEC WT 01 Type Certification System is described in IEC WT 01 "IEC System for Conformity Testing and Certification of Wind Turbines – Rules and procedures". The system is based on standards by IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) and ISO (International Organization of Standardization). The design evaluation is based on the safety requirements given in IEC 61400-1.
This system is based on the principle of mutual recognition by participants of test results and certificates issued by certification bodies at national level, and operates within the scope of the IEC 61400 series of standards for wind turbines.
The system consists of five elements:
- Design evaluation
- Manufacturing evaluation
- Type testing
- Foundation design evaluation (optional)
- Type characteristic measurements (optional).
Some elements of the certification system are mandatory while others are optional. Each of the above elements are concluded by a Conformity Statement.
The selected elements are summarized in the following report and type certificate:
- Final evaluation report
- Type certificate.
