OHSAS 18001 Basic Course
A recognizable occupational health and safety management system standard against which management systems can be assessed and certified
A number of leading shipping companies mainly involved in tanker management and off-shore operations have recently been certified for the OHSAS 18001 safety and health standard. OHSAS 18001 is an effective tool to achieve the highest levels of managing occupational health and safety in the shipping industry and is highly appreciated by key stakeholders. The common system structure allows OHSAS 18001 to smoothly be integrated in ISO 14001 and ISO 9001. Differences with other standards -in particular the ISM Code- will be clarified.

• Top Management, involved in Strategic decisions and SHE-Q Staff,

• Know what is required to obtain the OHSAS 18001 Certificate for your Organization.
This two-day course provides insight in the OHSAS 18001 standard and what is needed for OHSAS 18001 certification. The similarities and differences with other standards -in particular the ISM Code- will be clarified

The course comprises a two-day session covering:
• OHSAS 18001 scope; benefits for the organization,
• The principles: Focus on Risk, Leadership, Involvement and Continual Improvement,
• OHSAS 18001 requirements and structure,
• Hazard identification; classification of exposure to hazards; control measures,
• Similarities and differences with other standards; i.e. ISM Code and ISO standards,
• What is needed to put the system in place,
• What is needed to obtain the OHSAS 18001 certificate.
Preparation for this training course
No specific preparation is required, although basic knowledge about other industry standards, like ISO 9001/14001 and/or the TMSA program has proven to be usefull.
