DNV works on all aspects of energy efficiency and GHG emission reduction and the brochure creates an overview of the challenges and solutions to a low carbon shipping industry. The intention of the study is to enable a dialogue with ship owners, yards and designers on what can be achieved on energy efficiency and emission reduction.

In order to look at the reduction potential in shipping towards 2030, DNV has compiled a database with an evaluation of the cost and potential of more than 30 greenhouse gas reduction options across 59 ship segments.
This second Pathway to Low Carbon Shipping DNV has analysed the projected fleet in 2030. This study demonstrates that Co2 emmisions by 2030 can be reduced by 30% below baseline in a cost-effective way, and by almost 60% if all the identified measures are included.
While there is no single measure which could make it all happen, the aggregated effect of all the measures is significant. This will ensure an industry that operates in amore energy efficient manner and also accepts its share of the common responisibility to reduce Co2 emmisions.
