New+requirements+from+EU+and+California+for+low+sulphur+fuels

From 1 January 2010, seagoing vessels have to use marine fuels with a sulphur content not exceeding 0.1%* by mass when at berth in Community ports, allowing sufficient time for the crew to complete any necessary fuel changeover operation as soon as possible after arrival at berth and as late as possible before departure.

Shipping is under a continuous development to contribute to more environmentalfriendly operations as a measure to improve air quality and ultimately public health. Through the latest regulations concerning environmentally harmful emissions, the shipping industry will reduce, amongst other things, the amount of emitted sulphur oxide combinations (SOx).

DNV has developed a paper intended to inform about the consequences of the new requirements for low sulphur fuels.
