When disasters like tsunamis and earthquakes strike, the world must respond quickly to the immediate needs for water, food and shelter that rise in affected areas. DNV has during the first three years of its partnership with the Red Cross responded by giving contributions to specific Red Cross relief operations.

The Indian Ocean tsunami of December 2004
DNV gave NOK 1.5 million to the Red Cross tsunami relief operation.

Hurricane Katrina of August 2005
DNV contributed USD 100,000 to the US Red Cross’ relief efforts in the Gulf of Mexico coast area.

The Pakistan earthquake of October 2005
DNV supported victims of the Pakistan earthquake with 1,695 sleeping bags in a campaign initiated by employee Heidi Baban-Olsen in Norway:

- More than 1,000 DNV employees in Norway donated a sleeping bag for NOK 450 each.
- DNV Corporate contributed with NOK 250 000.
- Operational units in Norway provided NOK 35 000.
- The operation was a joint venture between sleeping bag manufacturer Ajungilak, the Norwegian Red Cross and DNV.

The bombing of Lebanon in the summer of 2006
DNV sponsored two ambulances that were donated to Lebanese Red Cross from Norwegian Red Cross. The ambulances were an important contribution to the efforts to save lives. DNV Corporate contributed with NOK 50 000 per ambulance.
